Putnam-Sponsored Golfer Wins First Major Title — in His First Attempt —in Dramatic Finish

Bradley Becomes First New Englander to Win a PGA Major in Nearly a Century

BOSTON, August 16, 2011 Putnam Investments congratulated professional golfer Keegan Bradley on his exciting come-from-behind finish on Sunday to win the prestigious Professional Golfers’ Association Championship, one of the four major championships in men’s professional golf. Bradley, who earlier this year signed a multi-year marketing partnership with Putnam, came from five strokes down with just four holes to go in the final round to win the title in a dramatic playoff, becoming one of only three professionals in golf history to win a championship in his first ever appearance in a PGA major.

“We are thrilled that our own Keegan Bradley has won the PGA Championship, and done it in extraordinary fashion,” said Putnam Investments President and Chief Executive Officer Robert L. Reynolds. “Keegan’s win, under the most dramatic circumstances possible, demonstrates the importance of effort, talent and perseverance in generating outstanding performance under pressure. Keegan reflects the values of excellence that drive Putnam, and we are proud to be associated with him.”

Reynolds pointed out that Bradley’s victory in a PGA major is the first for a New Englander in  nearly a century, since Francis Ouimet won the U.S. Open in 1913.

Last spring, Putnam signed a multi-year marketing partnership with the Hopkinton, Massachusetts-raised Bradley. As part of the sponsorship, Bradley is participating in a broad-based marketing program that will include a series of clinics in Putnam’s top markets and brand development opportunities globally.

Putnam’s partnership with the 25-year-old Bradley is the latest in a broader marketing strategy to align the Putnam brand with sports that resonate with the firm’s advisor, institutional and investor audiences, and to support those partnerships by engaging athletes who best personify Putnam’s results-oriented philosophy. Putnam’s other marketing partners include the New England Patriots (through the Kraft Sports Group), Olympic gold medal-winning Alpine ski racer and World Cup Champion Ted Ligety, the U.S. Ski Team and U.S. Snowboarding teams and equestrian events in the Greater Boston area.
